Living Water

Soap Saves

For more than 20 years, Living Water International has drilled wells and repaired pumps for thirsty people all around the world. But water isn’t all there is to it. A brand-new partnership is bolstering another crucial component of Living Water’s outreach: hygiene and sanitation.

Clean water is vital in fighting disease and improving living conditions. But adding in some soap means sanitation and hygiene increase. And studies show that the mortality rate decreases two-fold when soap is used with clean water for handwashing.

Two things: water and soap. Like peanut butter and jelly, macaroni and cheese, ebony and ivory—they just go together. But many people around the world don't have access to those two simple things. That’s why Living Water International is excited to partner with MeSoap to help provide soap, hygiene training, toilets, water, and other needed sanitation and hygiene supplies to communities in need. The partnership is beginning in Sierra Leone, the country with the world’s second-highest infant mortality rate.

With each bar of soap MeSoap sold, another bar is donated to a child in need...but in a way that is appropriate and sustainable. Demand for soap will only come through long-term, community-wide education on the necessity of proper sanitation and hygiene. That’s why simply dropping thousands of bars of soap into a community alone isn’t the way to go.

MeSoap gives Living Water the equivalent dollar amount of a bar of soap in order to fund sanitation and hygiene supplies (like soap, and educational programs) tailored to the specific needs of the communities where we are already at work. You can read more about their approach and our partnership, or watch their promotional video at soapsaves.org.
