Living Water

Haiti: One Year Later

Progress

With your help we raised $1.6 million towards a $2.4 million two-year goal to provide 850 water solutions, start a new drilling program, equip our expanding operations, and train new teams.

As of 12/1/10, Living Water had restored water to 340 communities. We expect that total to rise to nearly 400 once final reports are in. (Many projects require follow-up before reporting, so final 2010 numbers are forthcoming). After the earthquake, we grew our current programs in Haiti, started a new well drilling program, and added Port au Prince to our existing focus regions of Cap-Haïtien and Léogâne to help where needed most.

Challenges

Our teams faced port closures; a program director’s home was reduced to rubble and buried our tools; work in Port-au-Prince presented logistical challenges as it became a ten-hour drive from our Cap Haitian base after the quake; an un-preventable supply chain issue forced us to re-visit 54 project sites. It’s not been easy, but God’s love always overcomes challenges.

Plans

Haiti’s problems didn’t go away in 2010, and neither did God’s love. In 2011 we plan to rehabilitate 430 more wells and drill dozens more new wells. We plan to buy more equipment, train more people and develop partnerships to enhance our sanitation and hygiene efforts. Exciting stuff is happening. Please consider being one of the ones who hasn’t forgotten Haiti.
